Generic Checklist
Don't even think about going overnight without:
| | duffle bag, or similar** |
| | sleeping bag |
| | sleeping pad |
| | wool or poly hat |
| | gloves, light weight |
| | hiking boots, broken-in |
| | mess kit**, in mesh bag |
| | water bottle** |
| | flash light** |
| | rain gear or poncho |
| | BSA Book if you need sign-offs |
| | tooth brush & paste |
| | cord (for drying clothes) |
| | plastic bag (for wet clothes) |
| | folding chair or stool** |
| | Troop Hat** |
** Put your name on it!
Include a set shown below for each full day of the trip:
| | 1 pair underware |
| | 2 pair socks |
| | 1 shirt |
| | 1 undershirt |
| | 1 pair of pants |
Use some judgement here. Some trips are going to be wet, you'll want a change. Some trips are primative, full changes will be less important. On an overnighter, what you wear when you leave will most likely be what you wear home. Take good care of your feet, always have spare socks!
Dirt & Oil make you waterproof, but please bring:
| | soap |
| | wash clothe and towel |
| | deodorant |
Kidding aside, dirt can make you sick, dispose you to blisters, and make you unpresentable if the trip includes excursions to museams or other public places. Remember "A Scout is: Clean".
Cold weather options:
Please read this excellent article submitted by Leo Wozniak. Below is a quick start, remember to use the layering concept, and try it on before you go! You may get wet, wet equals cold, so think about backups.
